Customising vinyl toys...

Customising vinyl toys has been something I have wanted to try for over a year now and with a little push and a lesson in the basics by my very good friend Cris I have dived head first into customising Qees and I am loving it! Here is a pic of my latest design:

I have tried to make it as much like my illustration work as possible.. to really get my style through on a 3d platform is hard but I am working away at it, this is custom no. 4 :) I am off to buy a whole new series of colours tomorrow so I can really liven them up with a splash of colour. I've had some interest in them already so its very very exciting!

January has been a really busy month for me with regards design work, 4 clients on the go and with being very ill for 99% of the month I;ve found it very hard! So to make it harder I set up my new plush badge store too, Plush Pins :D I do heart being busy, it makes me think I have made the right choice being a freelance designer :)

So to keep me sane and calm when I'm working away I always listen to music.

Christmas!!!!

I am feeling quite upbeat and festive today and so thought I would post this years Miskellaneous Christmas Card sent to clients and special friends and the card I made for my Mum (or Mama Bear as I call her).

All my presents are bought, most of them wrapped, we have out beautiful 6 and a half foot real tree up (none of this plastic nonsense in the Miskelly household) it smells beautiful! I am finally starting to have a little bit of excitement for next week!

Hello all

I am shocking for keeping my blog updated but here goes. Business wise this has been the busiest month I have ever had, I have completed a project for The University of Teesside, created my first children's book cover, designed labels for Fresh Deli candles as well as a few other bits and pieces and a large order of my handmade badges and printed bags and mugs for Travelling Man in Leeds. So I feel like I'm just catching my breath now after a really successful month.

In not so good news I haven't felt well for about a month, maybe a little more starting with tiredness, to exhaustion, now headaches and some nausea. I've been for blood tests but awaiting results. Hopefully its something not too serious and I can just get on with being busy. I have also managed to get my heart broken which has been very tough and I have nearly lost one of my best friends through this and I'm just hoping I can muddle through and stay friends with him as I miss him very much at the moment. My Mum has also been diagnosed with having an enlarged heart and heart murmur which is being checked out soon. So a very stressful month combined with lots of lovely design work.

Hopefully my next blog will be happy all round. Special mention to my lovely friend Maya who is very unwell at the moment, I send you a thousand hugs and twinkly stars xx

My first car!

Spring in my step..

I have been very busy creating my brand new website to fit in with a new look and colour theme for Miskellaneous. The look reflects spring time with hues of blue, drops of rain and a a more delicate illustrative style.

In other news, small business awards on the 29th Feb is fast approaching, I have my fingers and toes crossed but the networking opportunity will be good either way.

I am also still setting up the card business and have nearly 3 ranges finished, (which amounts to about 16 designs) I will be starting off with 5 ranges so not long to go now. I am very excited about it. Some of the designs can be viewed on the new website under greeting cards.

I would like to direct you all to my lovely Mum Irene's Etsy shop, Christmas Frosting. It is full of gorgeous delights to adorn your Christmas Tree. SOSF Time!

What a fandabby start to the day! The postman had a little box for me today covered in Happy Halloween messages and when opening it I saw it was from my SOSF Fairy! Hello Angela, Thank you so much for my parcel, it is fab!

I got a gorgeous card and envelope set (Martha Stewart no less!) a lovely tin full of halloween chocolates (i love little tins and boxes), a sparkly trick or treat sign, a gorgeous pumpkin bear figurine, 2 scary spiders, a lovely pumpkin tealight holder with tealight and a gorgeous handmade card!

My gorgeous Kittys Gwen and Merlin have adopted the spiders as their own and Merlin keeps carrying them round the room so I have stuck my spiders on my window and hung up my sparkly trick or treat sign.

I've been very busy of late with a steady stream of work, promo packs mailing out and illustrating 100 monsters!

The promotional packs have a candy shop theme and i sent them out with a yummy lolly, have had a few positive responses but its very early days as they've only just gone out. Please keep your fingers and toes crossed for me. :)

These are where I'm up to with my 100 monsters, its gonna take forever but i'm thoroughly enjoying it!

I'm gonna try and update after every 10 monsters or so, i really hope you enjoy seeing them expand and evolve :)
Also I have a stall at the Cluny market this Sunday in Newcastle, I am so excited! If anyone lives in the area please try and pop in and buy something :D

The lovely Ben has challenged bloggers to come up with their top ten favorite albums of all time... slightly impossible, but here is my attempt..

Bob Dylan - Bringing it all back home
A fantastic album by the best artist EVER in my opinion. There are so many brilliant tracks on this album, my faves being Bob Dylan's 115th Dream, Subterranean Homesick Blues, She belongs to Me and Gates of Eden.

Muse - Absolution
Matt Bellamy's vocals on this album are just stunning and the piano in Butterflies and Hurricaines is just WOW.

Snow Patrol - Eyes Open
A more recent favorite but I am slightly obsessed with this album, faves are Beginning to get to me, You're all I have and Chasing Cars.

Blink 182 - Dude Ranch
From my Blink 182 obsession years, this is still one of my favorite albums it's upbeat, rocky and always puts me in a good mood. Stand out tracks are Emo and Pathetic.

The Killers - Sam's Town
Slightly typical choice but there are some amazing songs on here, Read my Mind was always my fave before it was even released its just fab, also adore Bones and Sam's Town. Even better than Hot Fuss I reckon.

Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks
AMAZING album! Every single track is stunning, an absolute masterpiece.

Cyndi Lauper - 12 Deadly Cyns
Love Cyndi, have done since I was about ten years old, just think she has a fabulous voice. Fave tracks here Change of Heart, True Colors and Time after Time.

Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind
Great album, most people will probably know Semi Charmed Kinda Life which is a brilliant song, but this album also contains the stunning The Background and Motorcycle Drive By, gorgeous lyrics and a gorgeous voice.

Aqualung - Still Life
A really beautiful album with such beautiful vocals and heart breaking lyrcis, I love it. Tracks I listen to most Breaking my Heart again, Left Behind and Brighter than Sunshine.

Muse - Origins of Symmetry
I adore Muse so had to have them in twice, this album has the fantastic head banging Plug in Baby, one of my fave songs of all time by any artist. Other stand out tracks are Bliss and Citizen Erased.

And thats it! These aren't in order by the way as that would hurt my brain too much. Thanks for the challenge Ben :)

6 Weird things about me..

I've been tagged by the lovely Penny to let you all know 6 weird things about me, it will be hard only choosing six...

1. I've always wanted to be /thought I was a mermaid since I was about 7. I love all things mermaid-ish (except those awful tacky cheap ass mini statue things).
2. I treat my Persian cat Gwen like my baby, she sleeps with her paw round my neck (in a non strangling way) at night and she comes and curls up next to me whenever i'm upset. She knows me better than anyone :)
3. I am terrified of beans. I don't even want to talk about them. They creep me out.
4. I have very little logic and practically no common sense. I don't see the easy way round things I see the complicated, ridiculous over the top way. Is this from being a creative type?? Not sure but it gets me into a lot of bother.
5. I often say words over and over in my head til they lose their meaning and I wonder if it's really a word or just something I made up. I also sometimes wonder if my brain works like other brains as I am constantly talking in my head, sometimes I just cant sleep cause I'm nattering away in my head.
6. I don't like being told what to do - I like to find things out for myself, hence it working out well being a full time freelance illustrator. :)
Oh and just one more - i can't burp. I just end up feeling sick if i have anything 'gassy' if you like, and have to lie down til it goes away. Tis an extreme pain in the bum.

Happy new year all, been quite a while since my last post so thought I'd update with all the latest Gumf. Firstly I've been nominated for small biz of the year by my local council, hurrah! Don't think I'll win but was nice to be nominated. So in Feb off to a glitzy awards night, hoping there's free champers ;)

In other news stuff, sent all my card designs off to Paperchase so waiting to hear back on them, fingers, toes, legs and arms crossed for that!

On the Crump front all is going very well! Had quite a lot of commissions in recently, here's one of them below - a GIANT Crump! Also been making tiny tiny crumps, not sure what I'm going to do with these yet...

Ughhhh i have a cast on my foot all the way up my damned leg looks bloody ridiculous stupid broken bones...
Wellll as i like to over complicate everything and analyze everything to death im driving myself slightly insane about everything... esp. personal life and people in it.

Ooh in other news am making some plush toys which will most likely be on sale at the Kitch-en shop in middlesborugh, woohoo! You know you should buy one... or five.... :) I'm selling them too, email me if you would like one!

Bugger I'm broken..

Well despite my frequent clumsiness i never managed to break a bone... until now... dum dum dum! Last night, well about 4.30am, i thought i heard one of the kittys crying, so i jumped out of bed to go and see what was wrong but my legs had other ideas. My legs were still asleep and so I fell to the floor in a crumpled heap which fully woke me up. After intially thinking I was paralyzed as my legs wouldn't move I realised I had sleep-jumped out of bed. Then I felt agonizing pain in my left foot, limped through to mum;s room bawling my eyes out ans shaking then fell asleep or perhaps passed out not sure. Woke up and decided i would be fine but booked a docs appointment anyway. Went to the docs he sent me to hopsital and voila I've fractured my cuboid bone and i'm all bandadged up and on strong painkillers and going back tommorow to see if I need a cast... fun fun fun...

Hellooo, well after a hectic week of finishing off my promo packs, parcelling them up and posting them then having to stick all the stamps on they are done and away THANK fudge for that. Anyways I am slightly estatic to have heard from 4 people already showing interest... one of them is... dum dum dum... Paperchase... oh my god..... i am a teeny bit overwhelmed, another is... (slightly smaller dum dum dum) Orchard Toys! Beyond excited... beyond. Also this week I've managed to get slightly drunk at Sally's Haloween Party, I gained a temporary stalker and a date with someone from the par-tay... ooh its all very exciting and iv discovered dating is highly stressful now I have to pick ANOTHER outfit for tonight for the second date... jeesus... stressful. (but good) :)

Posters and bonnie Scotland...

Well the posters have been printed.... argh! I'm very pleased with them but being the picky so and so I am, I keep seeing tiny faults with it but I refuse to go back and change it or I'll be picking over it forever!

I'm in the lovely Glasgow at the moment seeing my lovely Pa-Pa and working on his website. Popped along to the Contemporary art museum but the main room was closed so not much to see. Here's a few pics of some of the gorgeous buildings here, it really is quite beautiful in the centre.

Also bought some lovely acrylics and paint brushes at a fab artshop so will be painting up some characters tonight and hopefully posting them here when I get home..

A teeny bit about me..

Just in case you don't know who I am off one of the Illustration forums I'm Sarah, I'm 23 and from Newcastle in the UK! I don't really like to call myself a geordie as there's a bit of a stereotype going on ;) but I guess I am.

I've always loved drawing for as long as I can remember and always wanted to be an artist! The past few years I've embraced digital illustration as I can truly explore my strange imagination full of little characters bursting to get out! I love all things strange and unusual, bright and quirky and mystical creatures like mermaids. I still use a sketchbook for my inital ideas and will be posting some of my sketchbook pages tommorow...

Erm what else... I love boiled eggs and soldiers, and the idea of my perfect night is snuggling up with Gwenny (my cat), creating new characters and listening to Bob Dylan whilst drinking green tea (i do have a life occasionally and actually go out drinking cocktails with the girlys - Gina, Clara, Sarah and Sal and the lovely Linz when she comes down from bonnie Scotland)
